SLFD protects over 12,000 residents living in the City of South Lyon (southwest Oakland County). Our community ISO rating is a "3" (ratings are 1 to 10 with 1 being ideal). We are one of thirty departments in the State of Michigan with this rating, which means our residents enjoy decreased fire insurance costs.
SLFD is a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm Association (MABAS) 3201 and maintains reciprocal automatic mutual aid agreements with the Lyon Township Fire Department (Oakland County) and Green Oak Township Fire Department (Livingston County). SLFD also provides mutual aid assistance to Washtenaw County and is a member of the Washtenaw Area Mutual Aid Association
All South Lyon firefighters are part-time / paid-on-call. South Lyon firefighters live in the community and provide significant cost savings to our residents.
The fire station is staffed with 1 full time fire chief and two firefighters on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. 1 firefighter is staffed during Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Two firefighters on Sundays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Off-hours response is handled by on-call staff.
